Gervonta Davis Grabs Mother Of His Child By Throat In Public

Lightweight boxing champion Gervonta Davis has been filmed grabbing the mother of his child by the throat at a charity basketball game.

Davis was attending the charity event in Miami when he got into a heated confrontation with ex Andretta Smothers.

Smothers is the mother of Davis’ daughter, Gervanni.

The WBA ‘Regular’ Lightweight Champion can be seen aggressively grabbing Smothers by the neck, pulling her out of her seat and then marching her out of the venue.

 ‘Out His Mind’

Davis has been widely condemned for his actions, with social media users expressing their concern for the welfare of Smothers after they had left the venue.

One Twitter user wrote: “Gervonta Davis gotta be out his mind to grab his baby mother up like that in public. If he do that in public no telling what he did when they got in the car and left”

Another wrote: “Sad thing is if he comfortable enough to assault her like this in public in front of everyone …. imagine what he be doing to her & other women behind closed doors”

No Apology

The American has since come out on social media to declare that he never hit Smothers.

But Davis doesn’t address or apologise for the way he handled the woman, and dismisses the incident by wishing everyone a ‘Happy New Year’.

On Instagram, he wrote:  “I never once hit her.”

“Yea I was aggressive and told her come on.”

“That’s the mother of my child I would never hurt her other than that happy New Years.”

“January was trash.”

Davis and Smother’s daughter Gervanni will turn two in April.

Davis is a two-weight world champion, having previously held the WBA (Super) and IBF Super Featherweight titles.

The Baltimore fighter, who currently holds an undefeated record of 23-0, is currently represented by Mayweather Promotions.

The 25-year-old has had numerous issues relating to violence throughout his career.

In 2017 Davis was charged with assault for allegedly punching a friend, but the charges were dropped.

The following year the southpaw was arrested for his involvement in a street fight in Washington DC.

Another assault case in Virginia was also recently closed when Davis reached a settlement.

The boxer has made controversial headlines alongside his stellar career, but could his latest public altercation be a step too far for his reputation?
