Valentina Shevchenko Dominates Katlyn Chookagian To Retain Flyweight Title

Valentina Shevchenko delivered a clinical performance against Katlyn Chookagian in their flyweight title fight.

Shevchenko and Chookagian co-headlined the UFC 247 fight card on Saturday night at the Toyota Center in Houston Texas.

The defending champion is coming off a four-fight winning streak since her loss to Amanda Nunes in September 2017, when she fought for the UFC women’s bantamweight title.

After a failed attempt to capture her first UFC gold, she returned to the flyweight division and later on won the title by defeating Joanna Jedrzejcyzk at UFC 231.

Keeping her hold of the throne, ‘Bullet’ then dispatched Jessica Eye and Liz Carmouche in a pair of title-defences in three months last year.

She entered the UFC 247 co-main event fight as the heavy favourite but has promised not to underestimate her challenger, saying “my goal is to destroy everything that she has.”

Destroyed

Chookagian, meanwhile, earned her title shot by scoring decision wins against Joanne Calderwood and Jennifer Maia respectively.

Despite being the underdog, the 31-year old contender is confident her hands will be raised as she aims to dominate the defending champ.

But it was all Shevchenko in the co-main event fight as she pulled off the best performance of her career, which stunned the Toyota Center crowd after she delivered plenty of highlight reels.

‘Bullet’ was just too much for the Chookagian and she needed only three rounds to finish her challenger and to retain her flyweight title.

Some fans hailed Shevchenko as the best female fighter at the moment after the win and called for a super fight against pound-for-pound queen, Amanda Nunes.
