‘Underpaid’ Henry Cejudo Threatens To Leave The UFC

Two-division champion Henry Cejudo has vowed to leave the Ultimate Fighting Chmapionship if he does not get the paycheck he deserves.

The Olympic gold medalist is currently recovering from a shoulder injury and is not expected to return to action until early 2020.

He was last seen fighting Marlon Moraes for the vacant bantamweight championship at UFC 238 last June, where he won by way of third-round technical knockout.

Now owning the flyweight and bantamweight belts, Cejudo has joined the ranks of Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, and Amanda Nunes as the only fighters to hold two different belts simultaneously.

Unfortunately, ‘Triple C’ needs to vacate one of his titles, as per the ultimatum of UFC president, Dana White.

Cejudo said he is willing to comply but if the price is right.

Leaving The Sport

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Cejudo said the UFC should give him a salary raise or else he will be leaving the company.

Being a two-weight king, Cejudo wants to be paid like his fellow champions, saying his next paycheck should reflect his recent achievements.

“So if I have to relinquish the belt, and I am willing to do that.”

“But you know the number still has to be right with Triple C. I am in this game for 100% money,” he said, (transcript from BJPenn.com)

“I’m not in this for another championship. I’ve accomplished everything, and everything I ever wanted, and one thing is missing.”

“That’s a whole bunch of zeroes behind me competing and entertaining people.”

“That’s it. I’m ok with walking away. I’m ok with leaving the sport if I have to.”

Doing Other Things

Currently, the two-weight champ is planning to talk with the UFC president about his financial concerns.

“I do have a number in mind, but that’s between me and my boss. Like I said before, I respect Dana White, I respect what they’ve done, the organization.”

“I’m very grateful for what they’ve done and everything, but this is a financial thing for me.”

And if he does not come to terms with the UFC, Cejudo says there are other things he could do outside fighting.

“If we just can’t come to terms, then best of luck to both divisions, and a bunch of silver medalists and bronze medalists can fight for the belts.”

“I’m good, man. I’m a smart guy, I do public speaking. I want to get into real estate.”

“I want to get into a bunch of other things. My life doesn’t just revolve around fighting. I want to do so many other things.”

“There’s a whole other aspect of Triple C and Henry Cejudo.”
