Tyson Fury was quick to remind fellow heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua that the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world titles are only his leftovers.
Back in November 2015, ‘The Gypsy King’ shocked the world by ending Wladimir Klitshcko’s decade-long reign in the heavyweight division with a convincing unanimous decision win to capture those four belts.
Unfortunately, Fury needed to vacate the world titles as he battled depression, drug abuse, and health issues, which kept him out of the squared circle for almost three years.
During his absence, AJ made a name for himself, beating Klitschko, Charles Martin and Joseph Parker to become the unified heavyweight champion.
Joshua then surrendered the titles to Andy Ruiz Jr in one of the biggest upsets in boxing last year but would eventually reclaim it by overwhelming the Mexican in their rematch.
Meanwhile, Fury recently made a return to the heavyweight throne after a massive technical knockout of Deontay Wilder in a re-run of their December 2018 showdown.
‘I Had It’
Following the victory, boxing fans were calling for an all-British unification bout featuring Fury and Joshua in what could be the biggest boxing fight ever in the United Kingdom.
But before it happens, both heavyweight champions have to take care of their next respective assignments as Joshua is set to face mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev while Fury will fight Wilder for their trilogy bout after the American exercised his right to an immediate rematch.
“I’ve got two more fights left and then we’ll really think about what we’re doing and go from there,” Fury said on The Morning (per Boxing Scene).
“Because how long is a piece of string? I’m undefeated in 31 professional fights and this is my 12th year as a professional.”
“I’ve already been undisputed champion of the world when I beat Klitschko, I had all the belts.”
‘They’re Mine’
Continuing, the undefeated heavyweight said: “So as far as I’m concerned Anthony Joshua’s only got my leftovers, because I never lost those belts, I had to vacate them for mental health problems to focus on my … they’re my belts.”
“Until a man is defeated in the boxing ring, how can you claim to be a champion when you haven’t beat the champion?”
“I beat the dominant heavyweight of our era with 26 title defences and went to Germany to do it.”
Fury has also opened up the possibility of hanging up his gloves after two more fights.
“Then I went to America and beat the guy that no one would fight, and then I’ll come back and I’ll have two more fights and hopefully then we’ll sail off into the sunset,” he ended.
