WATCH: Game Of Thrones’ The Mountain Breaks Deadlift World Record

Game of Thrones star Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, best known as ‘The Mountain’ or Gregor Clegane in the popular HBO series, has set a new world record in deadlifting.

Over the weekend, the 6-foot-9 giant deadlifted 501 kg, following initial reps of 420 kg and 465 kg, to erase the previous deadlift world record set by UK’s Eddie Hall with 500 kg.

“I have no words. What an amazing day, one I will remember for the rest of my life,” Björnsson wrote in an Instagram post after his record-breaking feat.

“I said I was coming for it and once I set my mind on something I’m a dog with a bone. Want to give a huge shoutout to my family, friends, coaches, fans, sponsors and haters, all of whom helped this lift be possible.”

Boxing Debut

The Game of Thrones Star has also won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018 after placing at least third since its 2012 edition. On top of it, he has been undefeated in the past three years at the Arnold Strongman Classic.

Now, he is setting his sights on making his debut in the squared circle as he recently signed a lucrative deal for a boxing showdown against his British rival.

Asked about what is next for him after breaking the deadlift world record, he said: “Something new and big. Core Sports just offered me a seven-figure contract, the biggest contract of my life. I’ve signed it already.”

Björnsson added: “Hall has been running his mouth for some weeks, and I know he got the same deal, same contract. So Eddie, I just knocked out your record, and now I’m ready to knock you out in the ring.”

“Time to put your fists where your big mouth is, and sign the Core Sports contract. I’m ready.”

Enjoying His Life

While the past few years have been a success for the Icelandic Strongman, he admitted he fears for his life as he juggles the responsibilities of being an actor, athlete, and a family man.

“When you are putting yourself through all this. I’ve always thought about, ‘What if I pass away?’ It would be very hard to know that I left my family too soon. I want to be there for my family. I want to be there for my daughter. But this is my life. This is what I enjoy to do.”
