Boxing legend Mike Tyson has criticized Andy Ruiz Jr., following the news of his dramatic weight loss, ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua.
The first Mexican heavyweight champion will try to duplicate a huge feat this December as he is slated to lock horns with Joshua in a re-run of their June 1 fight.
Completing the biggest upset in boxing to date, Ruiz cruised to a seventh-round technical knockout against AJ last June to snatch the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.
AJ is reportedly wasting no time in his preparation for the rematch as he seeks to avenge his loss and reclaim his throne.
According to recent photos surfacing on social media, the Briton is now looking slimmer.
But Ruiz Jr. will also do everything on his power to score another win as he plans to send AJ to retirement.
Like Joshua, ‘The Destroyer’ has also made efforts to be in better shape for their rematch.
Lighter And Faster
Two months ahead of the December card, Ruiz said he is now weighing around 250 pounds.
In a previous interview, the Mexican boxer said he wants to achieve both the power and speed for his rematch with Joshua.
“I have a lot of respect for Anthony, outside the ring he is a very good man,” the heavyweight king told ESPN Mexico.
“But inside [the ring] there are no friends, there is no respect or anything.
“It will not be an easy fight. I think it will be a hard fight, but nothing is easy in life, so we are training very hard. We will be prepared for whatever he brings.
“I will arrive in better condition. Lighter, faster and more powerful. They will believe that in December they will win.
“People will always talk, but I have faith that we’re going to win and shut up more mouths.”
Disapproved
While many fans were amazed with Ruiz’s incredible weight loss, former world boxing champion, Mike Tyson, said it might take a toll on his performance.
“There have been rumours he has lost weight. I don’t like that,” Tyson told Parimatch.
“I believe losing the weight can affect power sometimes.
“If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
“He did well at that weight, so he should stay at that weight.
“In the first fight, Ruiz put the pressure on him so fast that he didn’t know what to anticipate.”
“And there were some hard punches.”
Tyson fought in his final boxing bout at 240 lbs and had to retire from the sport in 2005 as he struggled to keep his body on better shape.
