Following a rare weekend off, the UFC returns in front of a live Las Vegas crowd for one of it’s most exciting cards of the year tomorrow – in the form of UFC 264. Louisiana native Dustin Poirier and the Notorious Conor McGregor will go toe to toe in the main event, completing their much awaited trilogy after the Diamond made it 1-1 back in January, sleeping the Irishman with a brutal 2nd round KO.
Arguably McGregor is past his prime going into this fight, with Poirier in the peak of his career – and this is projected with betting odds for tomorrow’s main event. Poirier is a slight favourite at 4/5 with UK giants Bet365 while McGregor trails behind at 1/1.
Although the main attraction falls on the headlining bout, prying eyes will also watch the co-main between Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson closely. Gilbert Burns has been tearing up the 170lb division in recent times, winning four of his last five – while karate master Thompson always provides an exciting watch and has built quite the cult following over the space of his illustrious career.
Heavyweight slugger Tai Tuivasa also clashes with Greg Hardy on the night, in a fight which could easily go either way. Although Tuivasa is a heavy favourite not only in his home nation of Australia but also in terms of live odds, some critics doubt his form and say it depends on which version of Bam Bam we see. Hardy is also one never to be wrote off, with 6 of his 7 career wins coming via KO/TKO.
Irene Aldana and Yana Kunitskaya are the only two females who appear on the main card, and it’s destined to be a wild fight to say the least. Both ladies sport pretty decent records overall – with Kunitskaya in a slightly advantageous spot with both more fights and wins under her belt, however, Aldana has proved her worth over stiff competition in the past, and will be looking for more of the same tomorrow when the two clash at the T-Mobile arena.
The Suga Show is back in town tomorrow night when Sean O’Malley faces newcomer Kris Moutinho on the biggest stage of all. O’Malley is undoubtedly the biggest favourite on the whole card going into tomorrow’s bouts, and with good reason – sporting an almost perfect 13-1 record as an MMA fighter. Moutinho on the other hand looks like he’s being fed to the wolves, making his UFC debut against one of the best in the business with a lacklustre record of 9-4.
