McGregor Details What Would Make Him Go Rogue And Use MMA Moves On Mayweather

When the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was announced, the first questions that both the boxing and MMA communities had were to do with what kind of fight it would be: would it take place in a cage or a ring? What types of strikes and holds would be permitted? What gloves would the fighters wear?

We now have answers to those questions: it will be in a boxing ring with boxing gloves and under strict boxing rules.

In spite of this, while speaking at their first press conference, Mayweather suggested that he’s down for fighting in either eight-ounce or even regulation MMA four-ounce gloves.

“If you want eight-ounce gloves, let’s put eight-ounce gloves on, if you want four-ounce gloves, let’s put four-ounce gloves on!” Mayweather claimed.

Well, that’s not the only piece of MMA we could potentially witness, come August 26. In a verbal sparring session with Floyd Mayweather’s dad at the print media press conference, McGregor said that he might pull out some MMA sh*t if Floyd Mayweather “disrespects” him during the tour.

“Tell him, as long as he speaks my name with respect, I will abide by the boxing rules,” McGregor said. “I’ll abide by the Marquess of Queensberry rules. Only if he speaks my name. If he disrespects me during this tour, during this build up, then maybe I might just bounce an elbow off his eyebrow. That’s on him how he does it.”

This riled Floyd Sr up to no end and he vowed to beat McGregor’s ass if the Irishman did anything other than box in the ring with his son. McGregor joked that it would be too late by the time Floyd Sr made it into the ring.

Sr going off

“By the time you climb into the ring from the steps, he’ll already be busted open from eyebrow down,” McGregor replied.

The Notorious then went on to jokingly explain how he could choke Money unconscious in just two seconds…

“If his head gets down low, I might just wrap it up in a strangle,” McGregor said. “You know it takes three seconds to sleep a man from a strangle? An untrained neck, not used to it, it takes two seconds. So if I wrap around his neck and strangle him, he will be asleep within two seconds. On the canvas in that ring. That’s quicker than it will take you to come into the ring. So be very, very respectful with how you speak my name.”

Like how he’s respectful to his fellow fighters…

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, interjected and stated that McGregor would lose a lot of money if he went off script, so it isn’t likely to happen (no matter how awesome it would be to see). UFC president Dana White has also said that there’s a clause in McGregor’s contract that he would lose an undisclosed sum of money if he pulls any MMA moves out.

The UFC lightweight champ wasn’t done with Floyd Sr, though: in a final dig, he stated he’s keen to return to MMA after this fight so that he can compete under a more varied ruleset again. McGregor said boxing was “easy” to him, because of its limitations.

“I love a true fight,” McGregor said. “Elbows, knees, shin bones, foot. You ever bounce a shin bone off a nose bone? You ever dug an elbow into a temple? It’s an unusual thing. It’s an unusual thing when the elbow bone digs into the temple. It’s a nasty little one, but it’s something that I just enjoy. It’s something I love to do.”
