Kamaru Usman To Make Unexpected Career Switch After UFC

Kamaru Usman has revealed his career plans when he retires from the UFC, and his next profession isn’t what fans would expect.

Usman is at the top of his game; he’s the current UFC welterweight champion and holds an undefeated record (11-0) with the promotion.

But the Nigerian Nightmare is already looking beyond life in the Octagon, and has an idea where his career will lead once his fighting days are over.

 Family Goals

While he has a lot of fight left in him, Usman says there is an end goal, which is to earn enough to support his family long-term.

Speaking to Joe Rogan on the JRE MMA Show, Usman said: “I’m shooting for $250 million,”

“I’ll do other jobs and stuff, but I think $250 million is generational wealth.”

“That’s something my kids’ kids will be able to live off.”

 Making a Difference

The 32-year-old then revealed that he’ll make an unexpected change in his career path once he hits his financial target.

While many athletes may look to become a coach or a commentator, Usman says he’d instead like to resolve marital issues.

“I want to be a marriage counsellor,” he said.

“I think I’ve always been very good at being able to step back from situations of what’s going on and give advice.”

“I do this with my friends.”

“Just a counsellor of some sort,”

“When I leave this world, I want to leave it in a better situation than what it came in.”

Work to Do

Before he looks too far forward, Usman must first concentrate on winning his fights.

After destroying Colby Covington’s jaw at UFC 245 to successfully defend his welterweight gold, the Nigerian now looks likely to clash with Jorge Masvidal for a second title defence.

Usman and Masvidal have been going back and forth in the media for a while, and were recently engaged in a heated confrontation at Radio Row’s Super Bowl media day.

And now looks as though the pair will meet in the Octagon very soon, with Masvidal confirming Usman as his next target, and the champion reciprocating the interest.

While Masvidal has been vocal in the media, calling out Usman on several occasions, Usman says he will do most of the talking inside the Octagon.

“I’m the type of guy to where anything you say can and will be used against you inside that octagon,” he said.

“I’m the judge, the juror and the executioner in there.”

“That’s how I approach it.”
