Jorge Masvidal Willing To Fight Khabib At 155 But Under One Condition

Jorge Masvidal says he is open to entering the enemy’s territory and fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at 155 pounds.

Following a successful 2019, the native of Miami, Florida is currently being linked to a welterweight clash against reigning champion, Kamaru Usman.

With a heavy resume including the fastest knockout in the UFC history, getting the next title shot makes sense for the ‘baddest motherf***er’ titlist.

Masvidal has made it clear he wants a bigger paycheck for his next outing.

And if the promotion gives him the right price, he might be dropping some weight and lock horns with the undefeated king of the lightweight division.

At 5’11 and 170 pounds, the weight cut is going to be a tough task for Masvidal but with the right money, he is more than willing to suffer.

So Much Suffering

In a recent episode of The HalfCast podcast with Mark Hunt and Tyson Pedro, ‘Gamebred’ sees no problem making the ‘horrendous’ weight cut as long as the UFC pays him the right amount.

“Yeah, if the UFC gives us an offer that I couldn’t refuse. To cut the weight at this point would be horrendous for me.”

“I haven’t made that weight in a while and soon as they took the IV’s out from the UFC I couldn’t no longer make 155-pounds.”

“So, I went up as fast as I could. For me to do that now, I’d have to put myself through so much suffering. At 170 pounds I am already five percent body fat”

“So, the rest is just straight water, about 18 or 19 pounds is just water.”

Other Plans

Nurmagomedov is scheduled to defend his lightweight belt against Tony Ferguson on April in the main event of UFC 249 in what could be the toughest test of his MMA career.

Both lightweights are on a 12-fight winning streak, the longest and most active in the UFC, and only one of them will get to preserve this strong run.

The problem for Masvidal is if Khabib wins the fight, the UFC is likely to book the Russian against Conor McGregor in a re-run of their October 2018 showdown.

“So Khabib and Tony will fight in Brooklyn and Conor will probably fight the winner of that fight,” UFC president Dana White said.

“Conor is talking now about not wanting to wait that long. I don’t know what else makes sense, but who knows with that kid.”
