Jorge Masvidal Reacts To Canelo Alvarez Snubbing His Callout

Jorge Masvidal has responded to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez after the Mexican champion turned down his challenge to a boxing fight.

Looking for a bigger assignment for his next fight, Masvidal issued a challenge to Canelo after beating Nate Diaz via doctor stoppage at UFC 244 earlier this month.

The four-weight boxing champion recently aired his sentiments about the callout, saying he has no business in the cage.

Likewise, he believes Masvidal has no business in the ring.

“With all due respect, I always felt that I have nothing to do in an MMA cage,” Canelo told Little Giant Boxing, (transcript from MMA Fighting).

“I think the same if they get into a boxing ring. They have nothing to do. But from a business standpoint, yes it’s something attractive but it is not a challenge for me therefore it is not my priority.”

Different Thing

Asked about why fighters wants to cross the bridge, Alvarez said there is no other reason than money.

“There’s no other reason. Because of the money. Because of the money, because of the business. That’s the reality.”

“What other reason would there be? They would’ve started boxing from a young age if they really liked it.”

While he has high respect for fighters, ‘Canelo’ insisted boxing is way different from MMA .

“With all due respect to everyone, I respect what MMA fighters do in their sport.”

“They’re great fighters. But boxing is a different thing.”

The welterweight star has taken to Twitter to respond to Canelo’s claim he is not a good challenge for the Mexican.

“Any one. Any time. Any where. Gloves. No gloves. Real fighters fight. I’ll break your face and laugh all the way to bank #theresurrection”

He also posted this video, taking a swipe on Alvarez.

Fighter Of The Year?

The Miami, Florida native has previously claimed he is a better athlete than Alvarez and his size would play as a big advantage if they fight in the ring.

“I consider myself 10 times the athlete [Alvarez] is just because of MMA in general.”

“All the strength, speed and power you have to generate – to throw one kick is like throwing 10 right hands.”

“That being said, there’s still an element that I could put his a** to sleep, maybe I don’t hit harder, but I’m definitely bigger.”

Masvidal is being considered as a strong candidate for the Fighter of The Year plum.

2019 has been a breakout year for him as he has collected three huge wins in the UFC, which includes the five-second knockout of Ben Askren last July – the fastest finish ever in the promotion’s history.
