Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington have been engaged in a slanging match and have exchanged harsh words ahead of UFC 245.
Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington and Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal were once good friends, training partners and roommates but have been trading frequent blows in the media of late, and neither have held back as UFC 245 approaches.
Chaos once referred to Masvidal as his ‘best friend’ but turned on his comrade in September as the pair both looked to land a title shot.
And the controversial fighter has now dished out further insults to his former friend.
‘Street Judas’
Covington will face Kamaru Usman on Saturday 14 December, but that hasn’t stopped him from going after Masvidal.
When asked whether a fight with Masvidal was on the cards after Usman, Chaos told MMA Fighting: “That’s a fight that intrigues me big time,”
“He tries to call himself ‘Street Jesus,’ but he’s really ‘Street Judas.’”
“It’s an easy fight. He knows what happens when I get my hands on him. I break him.”
“We’re going to fight one way or another.”
“Whether it’s in the UFC Octagon, or a backyard of Dan Lambert’s house, or in the parking lot at American Top Team.”
“I just hope that it’s in the UFC Octagon, so he can get his medical bills paid by the UFC, and I don’t want to go to jail for assault for beating his ass.”
“He’s barely over 50-50. The guy is a complete bum. He wasn’t even the best welterweight on the card at UFC 244.”
“People want to put this hype on him like he’s some kind of god,”
“He sucks. He’s not well-rounded. He’s not a good fighter. He’s predictable.”
Getting Personal
Meanwhile, Masvidal took to social media to fire shots of his own, using the past to make some personal digs.
He wrote on Twitter: “Remember when I used to let you sleep on the couch? #hitemup you were crying cause those Brazilian girls punked you and I put you on. I fed you, clothed you and you sold out for 7 likes sad that’s all you got for a title fight. 13th disciple is a bitch #theresurrection”
“Remember when your ass got tried on south beach and me and Ike had to save your ass from some real goons fucking you up? When tibau whooped your ass so hard in sparring and you came crying to me asking if it’s ok to be scared like a bitch? #thecrucifixion”
Inevitable Clash
With the relationship between Covington and Masvidal growing increasingly sour, a fight between the pair is looking ever more likely.
And it would be a great spectacle to see old friends and now bitter enemies go at each other in the Octagon.
