Jon Jones Outpoints Dominick Reyes In UFC 247 Instant Classic

The light heavyweight champion avoided another defeat.

Jones marched on his third title-retention attempt since reclaiming the light heavyweight championship in December 2018.

Coming off a split decision win against Thiago Santos, many believe the mixed martial arts great will showcase his best performance to date.

Going into the title fight, the 32-year old legend holds the record for the most wins in the 205-pound class with 19 victories and the most number of title-defences with 10.

In what could be his final title-defence at 205 pounds before moving up to a new weight class, MMA fans and pundits alike predicted it will be an easy win for him against ‘The Devastator.’

Reyes, who remains unscathed in six straight UFC bouts, is fresh off a first-round knockout of Chris Weidman and holds notable wins against Jared Cannonier, Ovince Saint-Preux, and Volkan Oezdemir.

Regarded as the underdog, the challenger looks to exploit Jones’ boxing skills to be able to pull off a massive upset.

Controversial Outcome

When the dust settled, it was Jones who had his hand raised after eking out a decision win as the judges scored 48-47, 48-47, 49-46 all in favour of the defending champion.

It was a close call, though, as Reyes gave Jones a serious run for his money, with many fans claiming a robbery happened in Houston.

With the win, Jones now also holds the record fofor most title fight wins with 14 and tied Georges St-Pierre for most number of title-defences.
