Jon Jones will share the Octagon with Francis Ngannou in a future bout.
This is according to the light heavyweight champion himself as he labels this potential match-up ‘inevitable,’ with his current weight class running out of worthy contenders.
Since reclaiming the 205-pound throne last December in his rematch against Alexander Gustafsson, Jones has retained his UFC gold twice after surviving a scare from Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos respectively.
With this emphatic run, fans and pundits alike believe there is no challenge left for the all-time great at 205 pounds.
Jones is not yet booked for his next official fight but has been receiving plenty of call-outs from various light heavyweights.
One of them was Dominick Reyes, a top 5 light heavyweight who is on a six-fight winning streak.
“Hey Jon [Jones], I don’t want any party favors. I want that belt, baby, let’s go,” said Reyes after crushing Chris Weidman at UFC Boston last week.
Nothing To Gain
Jones has initially responded to this latest challenge, saying Reyes would suffer the same fate like Jones’ previous opponents.
In a series of recent tweets, Jones made new comments about Reyes’ callout.
This time, Jones said a win over the fourth-ranked light heavyweight would mean nothing to him.
“Really not sure when I’ll be fighting next.”
“Feel like I have nothing to gain by beating Dominick. I’ve actually felt that way about my last two opponents. I want a super fight.”
“Had a chip on my shoulder against [Alexander Gustafsson]. Fighting [Anthony] Smith, [Thiago] Santos, Dominick [Reyes]?”
“I’m having a hard time event talking sh*t to this last dude. They all say the same lame sh*t. I want a fight to be excited about.”
“Where did all the big names in the light heavyweight division go?” Jones asked.
Super Fight
As the light heavyweight division runs out of title challengers, Jones quipped he is considering to go on a fighting hiatus.
“Sometimes I think about sitting out and just training for the next two years, then coming back and challenge the light heavyweight who’s been the most dominant.”
“Wouldn’t that be wild?”
When a fan asked about a potential showdown with Ngannou, Jones responded, “I feel like that fight is inevitable.”
The French-Cameroonian knockout artist is coming off a sensational win against Junior Dos Santos last June and is eyeing a title fight against the winner of Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic rematch.
Jones also said he wants to challenge the winner of the trilogy bout.
