Jon Jones has changed his mind about not fighting the undefeated light heavyweight contender, Dominick Reyes.
The reigning 205-pound kingpin is currently on a three-fight winning streak.
Last December, he returned from a two-year fighting hiatus and defeated Alexander Gustaffson in their rematch to recapture the light heavyweight championship.
Arguably the greatest fighter of all-time, ‘Bones’ defended his throne with two consecutive decision wins against Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos respectively.
After these impressive victories, MMA fans believe there are no challenges left for Jones at 205 pounds.
That is why there are strong calls for the MMA GOAT to move up to heavyweight class and set up a trilogy fight with his long time rival, Daniel Cormier.
A potential clash with knockout artist, Francis Ngannou, could also be on the line should Jones jump to a higher weight class.
But according to Jones, his next UFC outing would be against Dominick Reyes.
“Just finished a coaches meeting studying Dominick and Cory‘s careers.”
“Established Dominicks definitely the more dangerous fighter. Beating his ass next.”
Unscathed
Jones said his camp chose Reyes over Corey Anderson as the more sensible candidate for the next title shot as he has been unscathed in his professional MMA career.
Reyes was last seen in the main event of UFC Boston, giving former middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, a rude welcome on his light heavyweight debut.
He eked out an emphatic first-round finish of Weidman to improve his UFC record to 6-0 and 12-0 overall.
Reyes boosted his chances for the title shot after the Brazilian contender, Johnny Walker, cruised to a first-round stoppage at UFC 244 last weekend.
Though no official date and venue have been announced yet, it looks like the UFC will be pursuing the title fight.
UFC president Dana White has welcomed the idea of this light heavyweight pairing while Jones was initially hesitant to take on Reyes.
Jones Vs Adesanya
While waiting for his next official fight, Jones has been waging a war of words against the undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya.
The UFC champs have been hurling insults to one another in the past months as they build the road towards a potential super fight.
Adesanya has vowed to hunt another MMA GOAT after winning against MMA legend in Anderson Silva.
Jones, meanwhile, plans to teach the Kiwi-Nigerian a whole different kind of pain should they share the Octagon in a future fight.
But if Jones wants to take this fight, Adesanya said he has to move down to middleweight as the Last Stylebender still aims to sweep all 185-pound contenders.
If not, the heavyweight champion has to wait until 2021.
Adesanya is currently undefeated in the UFC and is coming off a dominant win against Robert Whittaker at UFC 244.
