It wouldn’t come as a shock that Dana White is an extremely successful business man. Heck, he’s the president of the UFC and reportedly has a net worth of $350 million.
But it turns out that despite having more than enough money to live a ridiculous life, White is a pretty serious gambler. A blackjack gambler.
Last week on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, Rogan revealed an incredible story about the gambling habits of Dana White.
“I am terrified of gambling, because I know way too many people who do it. And rich people!” he said.
“Like my friend Dana White, who’s the president of the UFC, he’s rich. And he will gamble. He’s lost as much as a million dollars in a night. FUCK THAT. Dude, I wouldn’t be able to sleep for a month…
He then recalled the story of one of White’s “better” nights and how difficult the casino made it for him.
“Well he won seven million one night.” he said.
“They don’t like to pay you, they like to keep it in the casino. So they paid him in garbage bags. They wanted to give him cash, they didn’t even want to give him a bag. He had to go get garbage bags.
“So they came back with those fucking black hefty bags, and they stuffed seven million dollars into hefty bags and then left the casino.”
During a media luncheon back in 2014, White recounted the story, validating Rogan’s story about bringing his own trash bags to carry his winnings. Rogan may have been a little bit off with his figures though, White claiming he won five million, not seven million.
When the casino told him he’d have to carry the money out in cash, White was stunned.
“I’m like, are you serious? We’re going to get killed,” White said. “They don’t have some kind of suitcase where they put the money in. ‘You just beat us, here you go.’ That’s really the attitude. They just stack it all up there and go ‘thanks, have a great night.’ We’ve had trash bags, we got to the point we started bringing our own bags.”
Dana White is clearly not short of a dollar, but as a lot of gamblers will say, it is about the rush and excitement more so than the actual money.
“It’s the rush and excitement of all rushes,” White said. “What would you do if you put a $50,000 hand up there and you have to split ’em? There’s nights I beat the casinos for $5,000,000.”
These aren’t one off stints either. White has previously told Bloody Elbow that he regularly does blackjack “all nighters”.
“I have a lot of all-night blackjack sessions. I have nights where I’ll f***ing come home and I’m like, ‘Holy s***. The kids are gonna be up in two hours.’ So I get two hours sleep and then get up and take them to school and then go to work. But blackjack is my thing. I like to do it.” White said.
