Joe Rogan Confirms Floyd Mayweather Is Negotiating A Fight In The UFC
Many UFC and boxing fans alike have laughed off suggestions that retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather would be Octagon-bound. In the lead up to the Fight of the Century between him and McGregor, UFC fans were quick to point out that Floyd would likely be soundly flogged in an MMA showdown.
Well, speculation regarding a return to fighting for Mayweather has had new life breathed into it by Joe Rogan speaking on his podcast. But whilst we’re used to Mayweather coming out of retirement to fight for lucrative sums in the ring, Rogan says that it’s the UFC arena that he’s potentially bound for!
“Floyd talked about it. This is one thing I can tell you: Dana told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC. Like legitimately. I texted him, I go ‘Is Floyd really talking about fighting MMA?’ He goes ‘Yeah, he’s f**king crazy. I told him he’d get killed. But he’s still talking about doing it.”
When quizzed last week about potential future fights in a Live Q&A, Mayweather stated that he stood to rake in an astronomical amount from the UFC.
“If I want, I can go, I can come right back to the UFC, I can go fight in the Octagon,” Floyd said. “I can do a three or four fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars.”
Whilst we’re used to Floyd shooting off some pretty ludicrous statements, this one appears, at least on the surface, to have a great deal more legs than we first thought.
See the segment of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ below where the claims that Floyd is keen to have a stint in MMA are confirmed. If he were to join the UFC, what would his terms be? Would he survive? Would the billion-dollar figure cover his medical expenses? What do you think?
