Former strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk was unrecognizable after suffering a brutal face injury at the recently-concluded UFC 248 pay-per-view event.
Looking to reclaim her throne, Jedrzejczyk challenged Weili Zhang in the co-main event of the said fight card at the T-mobile Arena on Saturday night.
The strawweight rivals fought tooth-and-nail through five rounds in what could go down as the greatest fight in the UFC history.
But Jedrzejczyk’s efforts were not enough to topple the defending champion as she lost via split decision, with two judges scoring it 48-47 for Zhang, while sustaining gruesome injury in the process.
The Chinese fighter drilled a right hand on Jedrzejczyk’s forehead in the latter part of the second round, resulting to a massive hematoma.
“You see my swelling? She did great,” the former champ stated after UFC 248 (via The Sun).
“There was something missing but I felt all the punches and the swelling was bothering me.
