Henry Cejudo wants to become the pound-for-pound king this year.
Currently at the third spot in the men’s pound-for-pound list, Cejudo made history last year when he became the fourth simultaneous champion in the UFC after capturing the flyweight and bantamweight titles, joining the ranks of Conor McGregor, Amanda Nunes, and Daniel Cormier.
Ahead of him are Khabib Nurmagomedov, the undefeated lightweight champion, and the current light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones, who is regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all-time.
Not contented with his status, ‘Triple C’ has made it clear he aims to overtake the UFC champions in the pound-for-pound rankings.
“There are two men ahead of me on the pound for pound rankings and I’m here to tell you Virus or no Virus that crown will be mine! @khabib_nurmagomedov @jonnybones #bendtheknee,” he wrote on Instagram.
Title Defence
Jones recently defended his 205-pound strap against Dominick Reyes for his fourth straight victory since returning to the Octagon in December 2018 while Nurmagomedov is set for his next title-retention attempt against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249.
According to Khabib, much will be at stake in this blockbuster fight as it will also determine the next pound-for-pound king.
As for Cejudo, he will put his bantamweight strap on the line in a fight against the Brazilian legend, Jose Aldo at UFC 250 in May.
“Jose Aldo, he’s another legend. I think, to me, when you’re able to add Demetrious Johnson, TJ Dillashaw and Jose Aldo – man, I’m covering everybody from flyweight to featherweight. He’s gonna be the next to bend his knee to Triple C. The cabbage patch head is going down. You’re gonna kiss my feet, Jose Waldo,” Cejudo said.
Three Weight Champ
The former Olympic gold medalist has also called out featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski as he sets his sights on becoming the first three-weight champ in the UFC.
“Alexander Volkanovski is about two inches taller than me so I like that advantage. Why not? I can make history,” Cejudo said.
“Conor McGregor might get that third shot of fighting for a third belt, but he’s not going to win.”
“He’s not going to beat a big guy like Kamaru Usman. For me, I feel like I actually could do it. I feel that I actually could beat Volkanovski and I sincerely mean that.”
“It’s not just smoke coming out of that ass.”
