Henry Cejudo Bets UFC Golds And ‘First Girlfriend’ He Can Finish Alexander Volkanovski

Henry Cejudo will put everything on the line in a potential featherweight title fight against Alexander Volkanovski.

In an attempt to capture his third gold at the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Cejudo called out Volkanovski earlier this year, saying the Australian will be his next victim after Jose Aldo.

The two-weight champion was scheduled to meet Aldo at UFC 250 but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the bantamweight fight was rebooked for UFC 249 co-main event, with Cejudo taking on the returning Dominick Cruz as the Brazilian pulled out of the card because of travel restrictions.

Cejudo successfully defended the bantamweight title and announced his retirement after the second-round technical knockout win.

A possible Octagon return could happen according to ‘Triple C’ himself only if the UFC books him against the featherweight champion.

An Option

In a recent interview with The Score, Volkanovski said the door is open for a potential super fight with Cejudo. In fact, it was offered to him before he signed the dotted line for a rematch with Max Holloway.

“His name was getting mentioned everywhere, but it was never run through me. … But I started maybe considering that fight if it was offered to me because of the fact that he’s no longer in the bantamweight division, flyweight division,” Volkanovski told The Score.

“Now I’m not holding up any divisions – I hate that, I hate people holding up divisions. So if he was to move up to try and go for the third title, holding up two divisions, I would’ve been like, ‘Nah, you’re dreaming, I think that’s shit.’

“Our division was in a state where it was either Max or there wasn’t really anyone else, so I was thinking maybe you could squeeze in. You never know, you know what I mean? So that was maybe an option.”

Quick Work

Volkanovski has also told ESPN that he now looked at Cejudo as a featherweight contender and ‘Triple C’ has responded.

Cejudo said he’ll bet his Olympic gold medal, two UFC belts, and his first girlfriend that he could make quick work of the featherweight champ.

“If I ever comeback to MMA it’s going to be after your head your overgrown midget,” Cejudo wrote on Twitter.

“I’d bet my Olympic Gold medal, my two belts and “my first girlfriend ever”, that you wouldn’t make it pass two rounds with Triple C! #bendtheknee @alexvolkanovski.”
