Francis Ngannou is confident he will finish Jon Jones if they share the cage for a massive heavyweight showdown.
Last week, the former heavyweight title contender had a Twitter exchange with Jones as he agreed to welcome the pound-for-pound king when he moves to the heavyweight division.
“Who would you guys consider the quicker and more technical striker Thiago Santos or Francis? If you guys think I wouldn’t take this fight you’re insane. I have absolutely nothing else to prove as a light heavyweight. I’d love that big money fight right around now. Send the deal,” Jones said.
Ngannou replied: “If you think you can handle my technique level that’s fine Man shrugging but I agree with you that you don’t have anything to prove in LHW division and that this should be for bags.”
Worth It
While many fans want to see the intriguing heavyweight clash, Ngannou doubts whether Jones will actually move up to 265 pounds to fight him.
“I don’t think the Jon Jones fight will happen. People have been talking about Jones moving up for years. If he does move up, I’d love that fight,” Ngannou told BJPENN.com.
But if the fight goes down, Ngannou believes he will get the knockout win over the MMA great.
“But, they have to give me bags of money for that fight because that is a super fight. It would have to be worth it.”
“I am not fighting him to lose. I will hand Jon Jones his first loss. Jones has a good chin but I will test how good it is.”
“I can land punches on him and knock him out he has been hit before.”
Title Shot
The 31-year old Cameroonian is coming off a 20-second knockout of Jairzinho Rozenstruik to extend his winning streak to four fights since his back-to-back losses to Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis respectively.
Frustrated with the current heavyweight title picture, Ngannou said he doesn’t want to wait for 6-12 months to get another shot at the title.
“Honestly about that, I don’t even know what to think anymore,” he said (via MMA Junkie).
“We can speculate, like assume whatever we want to, but only the UFC knows what happened and when would that happen. I mean, I’m not surprised, the only thing is, it’s kind of bizarre to be in a division that the title is not running.”
