Floyd Mayweather Announces He Is Coming Out Of Retirement Again

Undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr is set for a major comeback next year.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday night, the American boxing champ uploaded a photo of himself in a fight gear, along with a caption ‘coming out of retirement in 2020.’

Two hours before this announcement, Mayweather also revealed that he is currently collaborating with Ultimate Fighting Championship president, Dana White, for a grand sporting spectacle next year.

“Dana White and I and working together again to bring the world another spectacular event in 2020 #boxing #mma #ufc #mayweatherpromotions”

The post fuels speculations that he may be fighting another UFC star again.

In August 2017, Mayweather came out of retirement to lock horns with the UFC’s biggest draw, Conor McGregor, dubbed as the biggest fight in combat sports history.

When the dust settled, it was Mayweather who had his hand raised, defeating ‘The Notorious’ in the tenth round by way of technical knockout.

In the post-fight interview, he said it was his final boxing match as he decided to hang up his gloves for the second time.

Done With The Brutal Sport

Interestingly, Mayweather has recently told Reuters that he is done with boxing for good, amid records of recent deaths in the sport.

So it is quite intriguing where he is going to bring his talent when he returns to action next year.

During the opening of his Mayweather Boxing + Fitness gym in California, the undefeated boxer said, “I’ve got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth.”

“Boxing is a very, very brutal sport. In the last few years a lot of fighters have died inside that squared circle.”

“You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career.”

“I’ll still travel and do exhibitions. I make great money doing exhibitions — between 10 and 30 million dollars.”

“I think I make more doing that than most fighters make fighting.”

On December 31 2018, Mayweather fought Japanese kickboxing star, Tenshin Nasukawa, in an exhibition match under the RIZIN Fighting Federation, where he reportedly earned another eye-popping fight purse.

Mayweather said he will still make himself involved in boxing but only as a promoter.

“Eventually I will move on to build my brand in MMA, but for right now I’m in boxing, and boxing will always be at the top as long as I’m involved,” he ended.
