Down in Australia, the fight game is thriving, and MMA is one of the most popular fighting genres. And just like any other country, they do have their fair share of the weird and wonderful amongst their people.
Back in 2018, 17-year-old Michael Letizia was making his debut at Eternal 35 when he was deducted a point before his fight started. Considering the talk of the town was of the mullet he was sporting, the commentators put two and two together, concluding that the judges didn’t like his haircut and docked him a point accordingly.

It in fact transpired later on that the point deduction was due to a miscommunication about the weight class.
‘I got told it was a catch weight bout at 63.5kg but my opponent got told bantamweight,’ Michael said.
‘They only told me while I was in the sauna cutting weight that they’d messed it up.
‘I managed to get down to within a kilo but didn’t reach the required weight so the agreement was that they’d deduct me a point for the extra weight.’
Ultimately, the point didn’t matter, as Mullet Man ended up beating his opponent Jayden Shinnie by unanimous decision.
Michael’s mullet became the subject of folklore for Eternal fans when he first appeared on the scene, and he’s now become a favourite amongst viewers of Craziest Sports Fights.
His second fight against Rafael Vilches was the subject of our first ‘Chronicles of Mullet Man’ episode, which ended our mate with a mullet going to sleep after eating a vicious left head kick from his opponent.
Since then, Mullet Man has been out of action, with a broken hand and a global pandemic hindering his progress in the fight game.
Sadly, in the time since, he’s chopped off the famous mullet, putting paid to one of the most unique haircuts ever seen in the 21st century.
