Daniel Cormier Says One Of The Big Guys From Heavyweight Will Beat Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier said it takes a heavyweight fighter to shatter Jon Jones’ cloak of invincibility.

Jones has been undefeated since returning to action in December 2018, beating Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Smith, and Thiago Santos in three straight light heavyweight title fights.

With this solid run, many believe there are no challenge left for the mixed martial great at 205-pounds.

This is why fans are calling him to move up to 265 pounds, where he could be paired against Cormier, Stipe Miocic, and Francis Ngannou in a massive heavyweight clash.

‘Bones’ is set for his next title-retention bid against the undefeated Dominick Reyes as they headline the UFC 247 fight card in Texas next month.

If Jones comes out with the win, DC sees him competing in a new weight class next.

Many Weapons

Speaking to BT Sport, Cormier believes Jones will step out of his comfort zone at some point and try new challenges in a different weight class.

If this happens, Cormier said Jones could be possibly knocked out by one of the big guys at 265 pounds.

“I think he’ll have to. He’ll have to escape his comfort zone a little bit. It’s scary for him. It’s scary for a lot of guys to change weight classes.”

“There’s this heir of invincibility with Jones and for him to go up and take these chances, I imagine is very scary.”

“I don’t know if he really wants to do that but I think he will at some point.”

“It will be one of those big, big guys that shuts the lights out. I just don’t know if those guys can beat Jones over 25 minutes.”

“He’s a good fighter, he has so many weapons. Look at me, I feel I’m one of the greatest fighters of all time and he beat me twice.”

“That says a lot about who he is as a competitor.”

Trilogy Bout

As for Cormier’s career, a retirement could be on the line if the trilogy fight with Miocic does not happen this summer.

“You can’t wait forever,” Cormier told Ariel Helwani.

“Every day that passes does not benefit me. I’m a realist, I understand that. Either we’re going to do it or we’re not going to do it.”

“If they’re playing a game with me, whatever. It’s not even upsetting. It’s almost like it kind of breaks you down.”

“But I have faith in the UFC. I have faith in Dana White. I have faith in all the things him and I have spoken about in regards to the fight.”

“If [Miocic] doesn’t [fight], we’ll see what happens.”

“We’ll see if there’s an opportunity for an interim championship or maybe he would strip him of the title.”
