Daniel Cormier Confirms His Final MMA Fight Will Be Against Stipe Miocic

Daniel Cormier has confirmed he will be retiring from mixed martial arts later this year.

A former two-division champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Cormier is regarded as one of the greatest fighter to set foot in the Octagon.

In his 25-fight career, the American Kickboxing Academy standout has only lost twice: first in a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of his fiercest rival Jon Jones and the most recent one against Stipe Miocic in their rematch at UFC 241, when he lost the heavyweight championship.

Cormier drew first blood in his rivalry with Miocic as he finished the 38-year old fighter in their first meeting at UFC 226 in July 2018.

Now, DC is looking exact revenge and reclaim the throne in a potential trilogy bout with Miocic, with the Nevada-based promotion currently finalizing a deal for the third fight, which could happen this summer.

Ideal

Speaking to Kamaru Usman in an Instagram live session, Cormier shared his next fight would be ‘ideal’ and ‘beautiful’ while hinting he could star in a fight card along the welterweight champion and Jorge Msavidal.

“Look, I know we’re in a crazy time right now with the world and with the way things are and it’s very up in the air but I think for me with the way things are going and the discussions that we had heading into the fight, into all this, the way that the discussions in terms of the fight were going, where I am going to fight this guy for my last fight, it’s going to be as ideal for me as I could ever hope for,” DC said.

“It’s gonna be beautiful.”

“I know people like getting scoops, and I think if I’m guessing, I think the way things are falling you and I may be spending more time together than most people believe.”

“Obviously we can’t say a date and time yet but it is looking like you and I shall and will be sharing a party and I think that’s going to be a good thing.”

Swan Song

Now at 41 years old,  there is no stopping Cormier to hang up his gloves this year, with the Miocic trilogy bout serving as his swan song.

“I got one [fight left],” Cormier confirmed.

“Some guy asked me today, he goes ‘you gonna keep fighting?’. I said no. I said I got one [more fight]. Cause here’s the deal, you fight these guys, they’re 28, 27, I think [Israel] Adesanya’s very young.”

“Some of these guys are very young. I don’t have to fight a young guy.”

“Miocic is about to be 38 years old. So I get to fight one more old guy, one more time. That’s it. I ain’t fighting no 27-year-old dude.”
