Conor McGregor does not rule out a potential rematch with his old rival, Jose Aldo.
In one of his most iconic win in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, ‘The Notorious’ knocked out the featherweight legend just 13 seconds into their UFC 194 main event clash back in 2015.
A year later, the Irishman went on to win the lightweight championship and became the first simultaneous two-weight champion in the UFC.
Meanwhile, Aldo has reclaimed the 145-pound title by defeating Frankie Edgar but lost it to Max Holloway in a battle of the two greatest featherweights in the history.
Most recently, he moved down to bantamweight division and suffered a s split decision loss to Marlon Moraes.
As for McGregor, he is set to make a return to the cage this Saturday as he takes on Donald Cerrone in the headlining fight of UFC 246.
Immense Respect
On Tuesday’s press conference ahead of the Las Vegas card, McGregor praises the ex-featherweight champion for putting up massive work on his bantamweight clash with Moraes.
“I don’t know. I’m in a great spot not having to cut weight right now,” McGregor told the media, (via MMA Junkie).
“It’s easy for me to say oh yeah, I’ll do it but cutting weight, it’s tough. Like I said, that’s why I had immense respect for Jose [Aldo].”
“I knew the media was saying he’s cutting too much weight, and this that and the other, but I knew by his physique and his body that he put immense work into that.
“I have an understanding because I know what it feels like. I’ll never say never.”
Never Say Never
Asked about a potential rematch, McGregor said he is not closing the door for Aldo, but for now he wishes the featherweight legend well on his new journey.
“You never know. Aldo’s coming back at me. Maybe, if he wants it,” McGregor continued.
“I thought he looked very well in his condition and his weight cut. I was very impressed with that.”
“It takes complete discipline and dedication with that. I thought that was a good bout with Marlon.”
“I think once [Marlon] switched on with that high kick, it was a comfortable enough fight. I think he switched off at moments that made it close, but I think Aldo was the better fighter.”
“He should have probably won the bout. I wish Jose well. You never know. Maybe down the line.”
