Conor McGregor Tells Mike Tyson: “I Will Beat Floyd, I Promise My Life On It”

Conor McGregor has told Mike Tyson he will beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their ‘inevitable rematch’ in the ring.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s biggest draw crossed the bridge in August 2017 as he made his boxing debut in a historic fight against the undefeated boxer. McGregor took home an eye-popping $100 million paycheck but suffered a tenth-round technical knockout loss.

Ahead of his MMA return last January, the Irishman made a shocking admission about the loss, saying “I actually look at the Mayweather fight , the shot on the bag and the way I was punching and I actually can’t even watch that.”

He added: “I shiver when I see the way I was throwing my punches back then. I just wasn’t sitting right on them, just floating through the air.”

“Now I’m getting into positions and sitting in. Got to go through everything to learn, to truly learn. Experience is the best teacher of all.”

High Praise

While McGregor was not happy with his performance in his boxing debut, former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said in his podcast that lasting for ten rounds with Mayweather proves the UFC star can take his act in the ring.

It didn’t take long for the Irishman to respond to Tyson’s recent comments.

Taking to Twitter, he promised to the boxing heavyweight legend he will ‘crack the puzzle’ to deal Mayweather the first loss of his career when they meet in a blockbuster rematch.

“Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd’s style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd. I promise my life on it. It is great to see you back Iron Mike.”

Boxing Title

Following his emphatic 40-second knockout of Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, McGregor has been linked to numerous big fights inside and outside the Octagon.

Reigning lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov, ‘BMF’ titlist Jorge Masvidal, and former rival Nate Diaz emerged as McGregor’s potenial opponent for his next UFC bout.

However, ‘The Notorious’ said he is open to other fights including a boxing showdown with Paulie Malignaggi and eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao.

“I know I beat Floyd, I’d beat Floyd if we rematched, when we rematched. But also, I would be open to other boxing bouts. You know, Manny. We’re actually close to signing Manny.”

“And then the Paulie [Malignaggi] fight. I’d like to box Paulie. I want to box again. I will box again. I will get a boxing world title.”
