Colby Covington Slams ‘Fake Ref’ Marc Goddard After UFC 245 Loss

Colby Covington blasted mixed martial arts referee, Marc Goddard, in an expletive-filled rant, following his UFC 245 technical knockout defeat.

The controversial American fighter challenged Kamaru Usman for the welterweight championship on Saturday night in the main event of the promotion’s final PPV event in 2019.

The welterweight pair went toe-to-toe in the first four rounds, with Covington leading the scorecards from two ringside judges, but the defending champion caught him on the ground in the final frame and went on to finish him with strikes.

The result did not sit well with Covington, saying referee Goddard called the stoppage way too early.

Covington saw his impressive winning streak came to a finish and he is not thrilled with how it ended.

Shortly after the loss, ‘Chaos’ took to Twitter and slammed Goddard for ‘robbing’ him of chance to kill or be killed in Las Vegas.

“Normally people do their fucking in the bedroom, not the octagon @marcgoddard_uk!”

“I go in there to kill or be killed. You robbed me of that. You robbed the people of a fair fight.”

“You should be ashamed of yourself. Fake nut shot. Fake eye poke. Fake stoppage. Fake ref. #ufc245”

Working Hard

As an aftermath of the loss, Covington sustained a broken jaw and was rushed to the hospital following the event.

In a separate social media post, the welterweight contender issued another statement, saying his spirit can never be broken despite the questionable stoppage.

“Just a kid from Oregon chasing the American Dream.”

“Working hard and earning everything in my life the hard way since day one.”

“I put myself out there in front of the world to kill or be killed. Marc Godard robbed me tonight with piss poor officiating.”

“He let my opponent fake injuries for extra time and stopped the fight early. Just like America, my will and spirit can never be broken.”

“Speed bumps can’t slow me down. You people ain’t seen nothing yet. #ufc245”

‘Now We Know’

UFC president Dana White has also shared his thoughts about the main event fight in the post-event wrap up.

“I mean going into this fight yesterday I was doing interviews and I told everybody man I said ‘Listen, don’t let all the bullsh*t and stupid talk overshadow the fact that this kid is tough, talented, and stylistically this fight in unbelievable.”

“If you looked at the stats they lined up perfectly and the question was Covington’s cardio.”

“You know he has unstoppable cardio and could Usman keep up with that and could Covington deal with the power of Usman.”

“There was only one way to find out and now we know.”
