Clay Guida wants to fight Nate Diaz for one more time before hanging up his gloves.
The American mixed martial artist scored a unanimous decision victory against Diaz at UFC 94 back in 2009. More than ten years later, Guida is still open to a potential rematch with the Stockton fighter, saying he’ll beat Diaz’s ass again.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, and I’ll never back down on this one: Nate Diaz has got it coming to him some day,” he said ahead of his fight with Bobby Green at UFC on ESPN 11 this Saturday.
“I beat his ass once, I’ll beat his ass again. If he ever toes the line, and they stop protecting him, you know my number, Nate. Don’t be scared, homie. You know where we’re at, buddy.”
Guida famously filed an assault charge against Diaz after a shoving incident that led to the former’s busted lip while his teammate, wo attempted to separate the two, was also hurt in the scuffle.
Focus On The Task
‘The Carpenter’, who has an addiction in competitive grappling, will bank on the support of his family members and friends for his upcoming fight in Las Vegas.
“Don’t be surprised to hear that Guida chant throughout the Strip, throughout downtown Vegas. I know my friends and family members are going to be right there with me,” Guida said.
“It will be kind of cool to tune them out a little bit and focus on the coaches. That’s one thing that sets the best athletes apart from the rest is to focus on the task at hand.”
“I’ve always been able to hear my brother and my head coaches and my cornermen, even when we’re fighting in a jam-packed arena like Vegas.”
Personal
Meanwhile, Green, who is a friend of Diaz, said the fight will be personal as he doesn’t want to waste the opportunity to score a win after a series of heartbreaking decision losses.
“Nate (Diaz) is like a cousin to me. I used to live on Nate’s couch. He let me sleep on his couch for free for like two weeks while I trained with him and stuff. Nate and him got into it, so to me it’s like, ‘Ah, I’ll give him a one up for my dog, really.’ In that way it’s personal,” Green said.
“I can’t let these fights get close,” Green said. “I’m like a quarterback, and I’m making these calls and these decisions, and there’s a lot of risk in fighting. So, sometimes I tend not to take those risks because you can blow the whole opportunity.”
