REPORT: Conor McGregor Knocked Out By Pro Boxer In Sparring Practice

According to former lightweight and welterweight world champion Jessie Vargas, Conor McGregor has already been knocked out in a fight camp sparring session…

In preparation for his August 26 super-fight with Floyd Mayweather, The Notorious is focusing exclusively on striking and as expected, McGregor is putting in more rounds of sparring than ever before.

“We’re doing four times the amount of sparring for this camp than we would do for a regular MMA camp. That’s a huge amount of extra rounds,” head coach John Kavanagh recently told TheMacLife.

“To be able to do four times the amount of sparring, the progress we’re seeing – because after each session we do a video analysis – the progress we’re seeing from one session to the next.”

So far, both Dashon Johnson and Tiernan Bradley have been pictured training with McGregor. Johnson provided the same role for Manny Pacquiao before his fight with Mayweather while Bradley is a Commonwealth Youth silver medalist who is said to be able to mimic Floyd’s movement in sparring sessions.

The McGregor camp is also planning to utilise the experience of former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi. Italian-American has been talking down McGregor’s chances against Mayweather and even claimed that he would go after McGregor in a sparring war. He also stated that wanted to make the Irishman a “better boxer.”

“Yeah, look, Paulie talked a lot of sh*t,” McGregor said. He was talkin…Look he’s been brought in to spar and then he’ll answer to what he’s been saying and then we’ll go from there after that. But we’re gonna have a knock in the gym.

“I mean, look, we’re gonna have a knock and he’s gonna have to answer to what he’s been saying. Then, maybe, we’ll see after that.”

It’s no secret or surprise that many in the boxing community are less than pleased that one of the biggest bouts in the history of the sport will feature a man who has never had a professional fight in his life.

Plenty of boxing legends have lined up to write off the bout as a spectacle and talk down McGregor’s chances against Mayweather, who is widely regarded as the best boxer of his generation.

And now, ex-lightweight and welterweight world champion Jessie Vargas has claimed that McGregor’s already been knocked out in a recent sparring session. Vargas spoke with Villainfy Media and said the following:

“He got knocked out in sparring already, we were hearing stories. The boxing world is small, you hear these things. I heard they tried Brandon Rios, but he knocked [Conor] out, so they had to push him away.”
