Anderson Silva Challenges Conor McGregor To ‘Historic’ Super Fight

Anderson Silva is not yet done chasing history.

A former middleweight champion, the Brazilian fighter is regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists to set foot in the Octagon after pulling off a record-setting championship reign in the UFC.

At 45 years old, Silva remains an active fighter, though his last two UFC bouts ended with a loss. Earlier this month, he had to undergo knee surgery after sustaining an injury in his first-round defeat to Jared Cannonier at UFC 237.

On Wednesday, ‘The Spider’ took to social media to call out Conor McGregor for a ‘historic’ super fight, which proposed to be a catchweight bout (80 kgs).

“I have a huge admiration for the great athlete that Conor is and I believe this superfight would be something historic for the sport, neither of us has anything else to prove,” Silva wrote on Instagram.

“I believe UFC and (MMA) fans would like to watch this great martial spectacle, testing my martial skills against him would be fantastic.”

MMA GOAT

McGregor, who is coming off a 40-second knockout of Donald Cerrone, has hailed Silva as the best fighter ever when he dropped his list of ‘MMA GOAT’s on Twitter last week.

“GOAT THREAD. The array of finishes, across 2 divisions, with champion status in 1, Anderson Silva is No.1 MMA GOAT. My array of finishes, across 3 divisions, with champion status in 2, I’m No.2. If not tied 1. However still active, No.1 is fully secured by career end. And easily,” the Irishman said.

“I didn’t mentions PED results on multiple entrants, even though that makes me the clear current No.1 MMA GOAT, along with still being active. Although it shames, as well as puts all runs+finishes in complete doubt, I’ve snored multiple juice heads. A true GOAT must do it all.”

“Clarity on Silva’s earlier no.1 spot. Most stylistic finishes on resume. Front kicks to face. Up elbow (albeit outside UFC) Thai plum knees leading to broken facial bones. Long list of jaw dropping finishes. Myself/Anderson have the most exciting/important finishes in the sport!”

Title Shot

‘The Notorious’ is currently being linked to a welterweight title fight against Kamaru Usman after Ali Abdelaziz offered him a shot at becoming the first fighter to win three belts in different weight classes.

Aside from working his way back to title contention, McGregor is also setting his sights on a boxing rematch with Floyd Mayweather, who defeated him in a blockbuster crossover fight in August 2017.

The UFC’s biggest star has vowed to solve the Mayweather riddle and give the American the first loss of his career.
