Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight fighter Alistair Overeem has suffered one of the most gruesome injuries in the promotion’s history.
Overeem headlined the UFC on ESPN 7 fight card against Jairzinho Rozenstruik last Saturday night at the Capital One Arena in D.C.
The Dutch mixed martial artist was on the cusp of winning his third straight fight in two years but his opponent managed to earn a last-second stoppage.
In the final 10 seconds of the fifth round, Rozenstruik landed a vicious punch on Overeem’s mouth, which split his lip wide open.
It was Overeem’s 14th knockout loss in his professional MMA career and to end up at 45-18 overall.
“Getting stitched up,” Overeem shared after the brutal stoppage.
“Lip not too sexy at the moment… a little bit of a fast stoppage if you ask me – but hope you guys enjoyed the fight.”

Good Fight
Improving to 10-0 professional win-loss record, Rozenstruik is now setting his sights on a titanic clash with knockout sensation, Francis Ngannou.
“If he accepts, I’m excited about it. I’m going to see him soon then,” ‘Big Boy’ said in the post-fight interview, per MMA Fighting.
“I think it’s going to be a really good fight,” Rozenstruik guaranteed.
“I mean he’s strong, he’s big. Even when I’m going to look at him like you’re big, you’re scary but we have to do it.
“For me, sure [I can knock him out]. If I hit you, if I get that big head of him, yeah we will see right away, for sure.”
