WATCH: Ronda Rousey Destroyed In First Round In Comeback Fight

The headline act of UFC 207 saw one of the biggest names in the sport return to the Octagon when Ronda Rousey attempted to win back the women’s bantamweight belt that she lost to Holly Holm at UFC 193.

That loss affected Rousey more than she initially let on. In an interview before the showdown, she opened up about how the defeat and the subsequent criticism had got to her.

“I heard so many of the worst things anyone could ever even imagine to think to say about me, every single day.”

It also ruined her master plan to be the only champion to finish her career undefeated.

“I’m still grieving the person that could have won it all. But I have to live up to the fact that I’m not her, that’s just who I would like to be, and instead I am what I need to be for myself and everyone else.”

Despite the fact that it was over a year since the former champ had stepped inside the Octagon, the bookies still had her as a warm favourite against the hard-hitting Brazilian. installed Rousey as the warm favourite at $1.67 while Nunes was the slight outsider at $2.20.

The belt was a hot potato in 2016; Holm lost it to Miesha Tate at UFC 196 in March and Tate then lost it to Nunes at UFC 200 July, meaning that until this fight, Rousey was the only person to successfully defend her title.

Nunes was desperate to do so against Rousey who was desperate to become the champion again. It made for the perfect matchup to round out an incredible year for the sport of mixed martial arts.

In a fight that requires no real breakdown, Rousey’s inferior boxing was exposed by the champion in a fight that lasted less than 1 minute.
