Dana White Has Offered Jon Jones A Fight At UFC 214
UFC president Dana White has offered former light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, a title shot “if [he] is ready” against reigning champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in Anaheim, California. Slated to take place on July 29th, the fight would see Jones rematching with Cormier, who he beat in a unanimous decision back at UFC 182 on January 3rd of 2015.
Jones and Cormier have been looking to rematch each other for quite some time now. The two fighters were scheduled to face off in Las Vegas at UFC 200 last July, but Jones was pulled from the card after testing positive for banned substances mere days before the two were scheduled to compete in the octagon.
Dana White: If Jon Jones is ready to fight on July 29 (UFC 214 in Anaheim), we'll see the Jones vs. Cormier rematch, finally.

Jones had undertaken a powerlifting regimen prior to UFC 200 booking and was looking noticeably larger in the lead up to the fight. He later was suspended for having the substances clomiphene and letrozole in his system, two substances popularly used for post cycle therapy in steroid users. Jones would later explain that he had been the victim of a contaminated sexual enhancement product.
The last time fans saw Jones enter the octagon was at UFC 197, where he took on Ovince Saint Preux for the UFC’s interim light heavyweight title. He was stripped of the interim title following the debacle at UFC 200. Meanwhile, Cormier took on Anderson Silva in a non-title fight at UFC 200, grinding out a decision victory over the aging former champion, before going on to submit Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in the second round of their fight at UFC 210 earlier this month.
Given that Jones is a popular figure within the mixed martial arts community, and Dana White’s assertion that Jones will not headline the main card of an event ever again, we’re wondering just how much the UFC is going to stack the deck for UFC 214. Will they hedge their bets, and build a star studded card in case Jones is removed from the card for some inexplicable issue, or will they bank on the former champion’s star power?
