“This Is The Best Sage Northcutt We’ve Ever Seen”

A huge fight on the prelim card of UFC Fight Night 120 saw exciting up-and-comer Sage Northcutt take on explosive striker Michel Quiñones in a lightweight clash that had fight fans licking their lips.

With both losses in his professional career coming at welterweight, Northcutt believed that fighting back down at 155lbs would allow him to flourish.

“I think I’m one of the fastest and strongest lightweights out there,” he said beforehand. “I’m so explosive for the division and I have lots of power. In the future, I could fight up at 170 again as I put on muscle and get bigger because I’m only 21 years old, but right now at 155 I feel great.”

After attempting to balance classes at Texas A&M University with his MMA training, Northcutt has now decided to focus on fighting full time.

He also does all his training with Urijah Faber and his crew at Team Alpha Male and reckons he will stay there for the long haul.

“The environment is amazing. It’s like a family there,” Northcutt says. “Mr Faber has been helping me out pretty much every single day, one-on-one, and helping me get better. He has just the right toolset for me.

“I think I’ve improved everywhere, from standup to wrestling, to jiu-jitsu. It’s really all aspects.”

After going 7-0 as a pro, Northcutt has found life a bit tougher at the top echelons of the sport, losing two of his last three fights before this one.

He knew that a win was crucial to the advancement of his career but also wanted to put on a show for the fans and come back again soon.

“A win would mean so much,” Northcutt says. “I haven’t fought since December, so almost an entire year. I’m looking forward to this fight and then having more fights come up real soon. I’m looking to put on a great show.”

The bookies believed he would get the job done against a dangerous opponent and installed him as a warm favourite at $1.53 while Quiñones was a slight outsider at $2.50.

The dude cannot stop smiling…

In the the first round, Northcutt sat back and relied on the counter, landing a lot of efficient strikes and finishing the round with a take down.

In the second round Northcutt used kicks more and started to open up, again landing a lot. He finished the second round with another take down.

Clearly down on the scorecards, Quiñones came out hard, throwing an axe kick in the opening seconds, but had no answers.

A new and improved Alpha Male Sage Northcutt looked extremely sharp, winning the fight by unanimous decision 30-27.

As is his tradition, Sage followed up his win with an insane flip. See the flip and some highlights below:
