Poacher Gets Eaten by Lions He Was Hunting
The circle of life means that sometimes you’re the hunter, and sometimes you’re the hunted.
One would-be poacher has certainly gotten more than he bargained for when he attempted to hunt down a pride of lions on a private game reserve in South Africa and ended up getting eaten in the process.
The man’s remains in the Limpopo province park were with a loaded rifle nearby, indicating that he was likely on the hunt for one of the majestic cats who roam its grounds.
The body parts of the “king of the jungle” are often used in traditional medicine, used for their supposed magical healing abilities, as well aas being a supposed aphrodisiac. Poaching has grown in the area of Limpopo over the last few years, with three male lions being found in January of 2017 with their paws and heads cut off after having been poisoned.
Seriously, if that’s the kind of stuff they’re doing to lions, these poachers deserve to get ripped apart on sight. Maybe the lions have worked out what these absolute idiots look like and are hunting them down.
We can only hope because there are only around 20,000 wild lions left in Africa, and numbers continue to dwindle as illegal poaching commands bigger and bigger pay cheques. In this case, though, there are a few more lions left on the planet and one less grubby poacher.
The lions “ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains,” said Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe in an interview with AFP. “It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions.”
“The head was still there but the lions had eaten most of the rest.
A scream was heard and the lions were scattered by the sound of gunshots but it was too late to do anything for him. He was eaten,” said a local reserve worker while speaking with the Daily Mail.
The police had initially believed that the man might have been a tractor driving employee of the game reserve, however that individual was later found to be alive and well. Police have still not confirmed the identity of the dead man.
“The process of identifying the deceased has already commenced and it might be made possible by the fact that his head is amongst the remains that were found at the scene,” Ngoepe concluded.
If there was a guy to leave and bury unidentified, it’s this guy.
