Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has come out in support of Ronda Rousey following her first round TKO loss to current Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes.

The former king of the light heavyweight division has said he doesn’t want to see Rousey make the same mistakes she made after her first loss at UFC 193 to Holly Holm. Rousey quickly went into hiding following the bout, being rarely seen in public and giving no interviews for months afterward.

Jones was forward in his advice to Rousey, saying “My advice to Ronda would be to pick yourself up and try again”.

Of course, Jones has been at the centre of many controversies over the past few years, having had a number of legal issues outside of his career in mixed martial arts that have seen him stripped of his world title, as well as suspended for lengthy periods of time. Jones is currently on a one year suspension from mixed martial arts following a positive drug test at UFC 200 that threatened to unravel the entire card.

Jones was sure to note that “constantly being humbled is never a bad thing in a sport like this”, and indeed Jones has been humbled over the course of the last two years.

Despite the legal troubles and suspensions, Jones has remained positive about his return to the octagon, going so far as to compete in grappling tournaments to supplement his time away from the cage. If Jones can pick himself up and dust himself off, there is still hope that Ronda Rousey can too.
