Gabi Garcia Fights 49 Year Old Former Pro Wrestler Yumiko Hotta
Rizin have brought the circus to town once again, this time with a New Years Eve matchup between jiu jitsu black belt Gabi Garcia and 49 year old pro wrestler Yumiko Hotta. 18 years Hotta’s junior, Garcia is famed for her size as an athlete, standing eight inches higher than Hotta, and weighing in forty pounds heavier too.
The match began with true pro wrestling flair, with Hotta bouncing off of the ropes and attempting to clothesline Garcia, who stood confused in the centre of the ring. Garcia eventually grabbed a hold of her and began to throw thunderous knees and punches at Hotta. Unfortunately, in the same way most of Garcia’s fights have gone, there was little to no technique to it. The sheer size and weight disadvantage saw the 49 year old Hotta beaten to the ground by a much larger woman.
Given Garcia’s size advantage, and the way the match started, some fans were upset that Garcia hadn’t played into the fun and theatrics Hotta had attempted to put on for the crowd, instead opting to beat Hotta to the floor as soon as she was within striking distance. It truly looked like Hotta vs Garcia was a matchup that didn’t need to be made in the first place.
German pro wrestler, Jazzy “Alpha Female” Gabert got on the microphone after the fight and called out Garcia, who had to be held back by Cris “Cyborg” Justino. Chaos reigned once again in the ring as cornermen from each team attempted to break up Gabert and Garcia. Check out the video below to see the action.
Gabert is known mostly for her pro wrestling career, but did win her pro MMA debut in October of 2016. Garcia is currently undefeated, having won all four of her MMA fights.
