Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson Receives Unexpected Last Minute Super Fight Call Out

So it turns out that Demetrious Johnson will be denied the chance to break Anderson Silva’s record of 10 UFC title defence this weekend… Or will he?!

Ray Borg, Johnson’s UFC 215 opponent, was forced to pull out from the fight due to illness, which has caused Saturday night’s main event to be reallocated.

The new pay-per-view main event in Edmonton, Canada, will now be the women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko.

According to sources, Borg has been struggling with an illness all week and was eventually deemed unfit to fight by UFC doctors although his nutritionist, Dr Michelle Ingels of Perfecting Athletes, claims that it had nothing to do with his weight cut.

Borg will have to wait a bit longer for his opportunity to stop Mighty Mouse’s run…

“It wasn’t weight related,” Dr Ingels stated. “Ray has been getting progressively more sick [sic] each day this week and still wanted to fight so badly that he put on a game face and went to all of his fight week obligations.

“However, prior to beginning the bulk of his weight cut the UFC doctor examined Borg and concluded that he was too ill to fight this week and needed time to rest and get better.”

Earlier on Thursday, Borg told MMA Fighting that he was eight pounds off the 125lb flyweight limit.

“That’s amazing for me,” he added.

Although nothing has been finalised as of yet, the plan is to get the flyweight title fight rebooked ASAP.

Earlier today however, Mighty Mouse received an unexpected call out, by none other than heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

Obviously the call out was light hearted… But after the pound for pound champion copped criticism earlier this year for turning down a “difficult” fight with TJ Dillashaw, this would certainly be one way to prove his worth in the pound for pound rankings!

Ironically, the original Nunes-Shevchenko title fight was due to take place at UFC 213 in July but was cancelled just hours beforehand due to Nunes suffering from a sinus problem.

Their first bout was a closely contested affair

That last-minute pull out prompted UFC president Dana White to state that he wouldn’t put Nunes as the headlining act in her next fight.

‘How’d ya like me now, Dana?!’
