Conor McGregor Rips Into Max Holloway On Social Media After The Champ Pulls Out Of UFC 222

With Max Holloway injured and out of his featherweight title defence against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222, the promotion is desperately trying to find a replacement main event.

This is the second time in the last couple of months that the Holloway-Edgar clash has fallen through: the pair were supposed to meet at UFC 218 last December but Edgar was forced to pull out due to an injury.

Holloway ended up facing Jose Aldo in a rematch of their UFC 212 clash and for the second time in a row, the Hawaiian walked away with a third-round TKO victory.

On this occasion, Holloway is the one who sustained an injury in training and has had to pull pin.

UFC oracle Ariel Helwani has since reported that the revised plan is for Edgar to take on number three ranked featherweight Brian Ortega in a non-title fight at UFC 222 while a rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt is in the works.

Never one to miss an opportunity to rub salt in an opponents wound, as soon as the news was announced, The Notorious dropped a couple of p*ss taking Instagram posts.

Sorry, we're going to have to let you go.

One has to feel a bit sorry for fan favourite Frankie Edgar who has won seven of his last eight contests and genuinely earned himself a shot at the title.

He last appeared at UFC 211 in May 2017, when he put on a clinical performance against top Mexican prospect Yair Rodriguez and walked away with a TKO victory.

Now, he may have to face the incredibly dangerous Brian Ortega who has a record of 13-0 (1 NC) and has been making waves in the featherweight division ever since his UFC debut.

Still, as that old saying goes: ‘to be the best you have to beat the best,’ and Edgar vs Ortega is at least a silver lining to the dark cloud forming around UFC 222. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
