UFC on FOX 24 from Kansas City, Missouri featured a women’s strawweight contenders match between Michelle ‘The Karate Hottie’ Waterson and ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas.

The bout featured two of the most exciting and marketable females in the UFC not named Ronda Rousey and Paige Vanzant and the winner had a claim to being a deserving challenger for current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

6th-ranked Michelle Waterson was coming off a high-profile win over Paige VanZant, while Rose, ranked 4th in the division, was looking to bounce back from a close decision loss to top contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz. In the end, Namajunas proved too much for Michelle as ‘Thug’ caught her with a huge headkick followed by some brutal ground and pound, and a horror movie choke.
“We broke off from the clinch one time and it kind of set up that right kick,” Namajunas said. “I have a really powerful right kick and I just haven’t had the chance to show it yet.”
After the fight, Namajunas sent a message to current strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who defends her title against Jessica Andrade at UFC 211.
“I feel like I can go all the way to the belt and hold it for a while,” Namaijunas said. “Joanna or whomever is going to win that fight, I’m coming so be careful.”
It’s going to be hard for the UFC to deny she deserves a shot at Jedrzejczyk’s 115 pound belt if the champ defends it at UFC 211 on May 13th against Jessica Andrade.
